Dreamscape | Eden.

Ailbhe Reilly Tuite | Sorcha Browning

Dreamscape & Eden. are two visual art installations from artists Ailbhe Reilly Tuite and Sorcha Browning.

Sorcha’s film installation Eden. is on a 9-minute loop and is displayed across two sculptural screens. Each character’s video performance plays out simultaneously, and rather than instructing the gaze of the viewer through the scene, the characters capture attention through sound, gesture and physical expression – their “tastes,” each holding symbolic or cultural resonance that hold within them histories and presents of representation and power relations. There is a perceived freedom when considering representation – especially of the self – that often falls short of expectations. Whilst our performativity increases what is digitally known about us to increase profitability – what are the “stuffs” we are actually gaining from this constant engagement?

Dreamscape is simultaneously a canvas and projection screen, creating an interactive game of ‘trace the dot’. When first installed, the canvas is blank, and as more visitors trace the dot, an underlying image slowly reveals itself.

The animation projected and its accompanying sound piece take us through a looping journey of death and rebirth. Visitors are welcome to engage with this journey by drawing on the screen and entering the playful and meditative space provided by the animation and sound.
